Our People

Gretchen Begley

Gretchen comes to PCYP with over 15 years of experience in movements for justice and in direct social work practice. She received her Certificate in Interpretation Studies from Hunter College (CUNY) in 2012 and has extensive experience in Spanish-English interpretation and translation with state courts, city agencies, and community organizations. She is excited that she gets to learn new things about both of her working languages every day. Gretchen received her Master of Social Work from Hunter College (CUNY) in 2008, where she focused on group work with immigrant communities, and her B.A. in Global Studies with a minor in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2004, where she focused on socioeconomics and politics in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Prior to joining PCYP, Gretchen served as a case manager at a legal services organization serving homeless immigrant youth. She was also privileged to work alongside incredible human rights activists in Colombia with the organization Peace Brigades International. Gretchen can’t live without the ocean, and she is in agreement with Emma Goldman that dance must be a part of our revolution.
